A long campaign of solidarity for NABET-CWA members at NBC Universal has paid off, as the union and company reached a tentative agreement this week with wage and job security improvements. The last contract expired March 31, 2009.

Fifty-five Senators voted to have a full discussion and debate on a bill to give public safety officers collective bargaining rights.
But under the current Senate rules, a majority just isnt enough. That majority vote couldnt overcome the 40 Republicans and three Democrats who killed the bill by not allowing it to be debated by the full Senate. All Republicans plus Democrats Mark Warner (Va.), Kay Hagan (N.C.) and Michael Bennet (Colo.) voted against full discussion of the bill.

CWAers nationwide are working hard to push the U.S. Senate to act on a measure giving public safety officers collective bargaining rights. Hundreds of phone calls and handwritten letters have been sent to Senators, pressing for a vote on the bill.

CWA’s AT&T Internet bargaining committee will begin negotiations with AT&T for a new contract covering nearly 5,400 workers in Districts 3, 4, 6 and 9. Bargaining will take place in Dallas; the current contract expires July 17.
