• iPhone, BlackBerry Curve and Droid Top Smartphones, Android Explodes, Says Millennial Media

TopMObilephonesmill.JPGAndroid is growing exponentially according the the latest Millennial Nedia report. Although Apple’s iPhone is the top mobile phone at 24.32% it’s follwed by the BackBerry Curve and Motorola Droid. Shopping app usage increased, most likely for Back-to-School shopping and smartphones usage increased.

The Android OS continued its huge growth on the Millennial network, and grew another 47% month-over-month. Since January, Android has grown 690%. Android also officially became the number two OS on the Millennial network (surpassing RIM.)

The Motorola Droid moved into the top three in July’s Top 20 Mobile Phones with 5% impression share. The Motorola Cliq Android device also entered into the Top 20 for the first time this month.

Apple ad requests increased 24% month-over-month, but are actually down 15% since January.
iPad ad requests grew 327% month-over-month.

BlackBerry apps represented 11% of the US Developer Platform Usage
Mix. This was a increase of 9%, and represents the increased importance
app developers are placing on the RIM platform.

Shopping and retail apps entered into the top 10 Mobile App Channels, perhaps reflecting a potential back-to-school trend.

Smartphones and connected devices increased their impression share
7%, and now represent 68% of the total impression share. This is an
example of the continued demand consumers have for a rich media
experience they cannot get on a feature phone.

  • Review: Droid X (Verizon) by Motorola Review of Reviews

    DROIDXReview.jpg

Droid X Rated 4.5 out of 5 by Wireless and Mobile News Review of Reviews

Reviews of the Droid X by Motorola reveal that it is excellent and one of the hottest phones of the summer. The 4.3 inch (WVGA 854 x 480) touchscreen is referred to as gorgeous, beautiful and a knockout. The processor is speedy, making the Droid X the most powerful Android smartphone. Given Editor’s Choice by PCMag, the Droid X, marks the eXcellent spot  for Wi-Fi hotspots, Bluetooth voice dialing, video/multimedia, great call quality with super noise cancellation and good to great 8 megapixel camera.

Reviewers liked that the Droid X onscreen keyboard has multi-touch hold down shift key at same time some thought the keyboard was awesome while other found it the large screen a little too big. Droid X data download speeds were excellent. Noise cancellation works well on phone calls and video recording.  The Droid X runs Android 2.1 and because it has GPS, you can use it for free Google navigation. Of course it offers email capabilities. Motorola has added Moto Blur for unified social networking that works well even though it is timed delayed for Twitter.
Some reviewers loved that the Droid X has an HMDI cable to play
video on other devices. One review, however, pointed out that the HDMI
video out cable only works with the built-in photo/video app not YouTube
or V CAST. The full HTML browser allows for up to 8 open browsers and
    pinch to
    zoom.  DROID X
owners  get Android 2.2 and Adobe Flash
Player 10.1 with an over-the-air update in the latter half of the
summer as well as an update the faster FroYo Android 2.2.

    Verizon
customers who have contracts ending by 12/31/2010 are elligible for an
upgrade without penalty.  DROID X by Motorola
    will be available online
and in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores beginning July 15 for
    9.99
    after a 0 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement.
    Don’t forget to use the

coupon-link to avoid waiting for a rebate (after you try it out in the
    store.)

    Verizon

    Wireless
has had considerable success with the Droid line
    of smartphones the well-reviewed
HTC Droid Incredible continually sells out and does not ship for
a few weeks. There have been shortages of the high-end components
smartphones need, we’re thinking if Droid X does neXt for your
smarphone, you may want to order it at 12:01 am July 15 online

Sascha Segan at PCMag rated the Droid X 4.5 out of 5 because it is THE most powerful Android smartphone. He liked the speedy processor,Wi-Fi hotspots, Bluetooth voice dialing, excellent reception and noise cancellation. It may be too big for some and if you don’t want Moto Blur, you are stuck with it.  He called the Droid X excellent and a little excessive. He gave it Editor’s Choice. He called the screen beautiful, the keyboard adequate, and Swype great for everything except urls and passwords. Data download speeds were excellent and he expects battery life to be better than Evo.The Moto Bllur automatic mix of Twitter and Facebook is great but messages can be a bit stale. The 1-GHz TI OMAP 3630 processor is faster than the Snapdragon. Music playing is fine, the camera is one of the best and video watching is excellent. He felt cheated because the video out cable only works with the built-in photo/video app not YouTube or V CAST.

Bonnie Cha at CNET rated the Droid X 4 out 5, for gorgeous touchscreen, video, 8 MP camera, HDMI out and Wi-Fi hotspot. She doesn’t like the sluggishness of the camera, Moto Blur and absence of front facing camera. She found the SWYPE keyboard accurate/quick and the standard Android onscreen keyboard awesome. It felt solid overall. The buttons are true physical mechanical, not screen. Moto Blur is less evasive and more refined. Video recording includes sound noise cancellation. The camera has effects, dual LED flash and 720 p video capture. It come with 8GB of onboard storage along with a 16GB microSD card, which can hande 32GB cards making it possible for
40GB of storage. Other features include Bluetooth, 3G, GPS, and integrated Wi-Fi. Call quality was great. Some data calls dropped. Photo quality was mixed.

Ginny Miles at PC World rated the Droid X 4.5 out of 5 for it’s beautiful 4.3 inch display and intuitive software as well as multimedia playback, network performance and features.  She called the Droid X the one of the hottest phones to debut this summer, but found performance sluggish at times. She liked the rubberized back and buttons, finding the design elegant. She misses the kickstand of the HTC EVO 4G. The 4.3-inch, WVGA 854-by-480-resolution display is a knockout. She found the multi-touch onscreen keyboard natural and Swype useful.  The 8 megapixel camera is respectable.  She found it to be speedy and  call quality good.

  • Top 10 Best Things 2Do While Waiting for Your HTC Droid Incredible and HTC EVO 4G

    HTCEVO4GHTCDRoidIncredible.jpgThe well-reviewed
HTC Droid Incredible and also well-reviewed HTC EVO 4G are truly incredible super smartphones, they are both made by HTC and run Android 2.1 with HTC Sense.  They are both hugely popular and both have a 1GHz Snapdragon processors and 480 x 800 pixels displays.

The HTC Droid Incredible sells out in stores and according the Verizon website, will be shipped by June 28 and we have heard that some stores sell out of the EVO 4G, or you may have ordered an HTC phone and are anxiously awaiting the delivery and noone delivers on Sunday!

Our friend was out early on Thursday, and got her HTC EVO 4G and then found out that Sprint couldn’t transfer her contacts from her Samsung Instinct (there are several ways to do it, which we will explain later.) Her travail got us thinking.  Because HTC Sense pulls all kinds of information together it would save you a lot of time when you get your HTC EVO 4G or Droid Incredible to get all your email accounts, social networking, passwords and “stuff” ready before you get your new HTC EVO 4G or Droid Incredible. Here our tips for what to do while you are waiting for

    1. Read the Manuals & Quick Start Guides
Reading  HTC EVO 4G User Guide(Manual) and the EVO Getting Started Guide, or Droid Incredible User Guide (Manual) will give you all kinds of insights on how to set up your HTC smartphone to work with all your accounts.

    2. Get a Google Gmail Account for Android Market
If you don’t already have a Google login or Gmail account, you’ll want to get one online. If you have your contacts in Gmail or Google Voice they will all import and sync into your HTC Droid Incredible and HTC EVO 4G.

You have to have a Google account in order to buy or download
anything from Android Market. The HTC Sense interface makes it super
easy to sync with your Gmail.

    3. Make Names and Passwords
    Short an’ Sweet

We had too slips in using HTC Sense with our
Gmail account. First we have a very long user name and even longer
password!  Although the touchscreen keyboards are excellent on the When we set up syinc on the HTC
    Droid Incredible
, it took several attempts to
type in a rather long password.  For the username we used voice to text
the edited it. Now we wished that instead of a company name we used
initials and had a shorter password.

    4. Delete Old Messages Decide on Email Strategy
The Gmail account online, had well a couple of hundred email messages that we forgot to delete, which were all downloaded through HTC Sense to the our HTC Droid Incredible. Deleting hundreds of messages on the phone requires finger acrobatics.  We logged into our Gmail account on the web and deleted the old junk, which automatically deleted the email messages on the Droid Incredible.  We suggest you clean up your email before you get your new phone.

    5.Check with IT Dept
Business Users Note: You can only add one Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account on your HTC Sense smarpthone. Make sure your IT department knows what that you will be syncing with the corporate server, they may or may not have suggestions.

If your like, many of us, you may have several email accounts and hundreds of Facebook friends, do you really want all that informtion on your Droid or EVO?

    6. Prep for POP or IMAP Accounts
If you use POP  for your email account and retrieve your email from more than one place, you could lose track of emails. With IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) you read your mail while it is still on the mail server. Because your mail remains on the server you can access it from any IMAP- device, anywhere.
POP (Post Office Protocol),  downloads e-mail to ta location, generally
    removing
    it from the central server.

Some people have a smartphone-only email address, that they give out only to a few people. You really don’t want to use your battery juice for accounts that are spammed several times an hour. We are making an extra short email account at wmns.mobi, just for our smartphone and testing  use.

7.Decide Who Your Friends Really Are Get Passwords
With the HTC Friend Stream app, you always know what’s going on on Facebook
and Twitter, without actually going on Facebook and Twitter. The question is how many people’s Tweets and trips to the market you want to read on Droid or EVO. You can de-friend people before you get your Droid Incredible or HTC EVO 4G to avoid Friend Stream Bloat. You can also get your passwords together to send in an email to your self to save time typing in passwords, (copy and paste them into the setup screens.

    8. Ready Set Sync – from Your PC?
    Clean Up Contacts on Comptuer
HTC Sync allows synchronization between a phone and PC. This handy program will sync  Outlook and Windows Address Book (Outlook
Express), contacts and calendar events between your computer and your
phone. However if you are like many of us you may have contacts on your PC that you can’t even remember who the person is none

    9. BACK UP BACK UP SAVE SAVE On Your Old Phone
If you can save you contacts onto your a microSD, save them in a compatible format on the microSD on your old phone. If you carrier offers cloud backup, see if you can backup your old phone. You can check with your carrier before you get your new HTC Droid Incredible or EVO 4G to figure out how you will get your contacts from your old phone to your new smarpthone.

    10. Find a New Home or Sell or Recycle the Old Phone
Shop around to find the best price you can get for recycling your old phone.  You can sell your used cell phone to iBuyPhones.com
for cash, or recycle their qualifying phones. In conjunction with a
partnership with American Forests, they will plant a tree for every
recycled phone received.  You may decide to do good with your old phone.

You can donate your old phone to HopeLine to help survivors of domestic violence, download the postage-paid label available online. The donation of a cell phone can help make a difference for survivors
of domestic violence who need a vital link to emergency or support
services in a time of crisis or a reliable, safe connection to
employers, family and friends. By the time your mailing label comes, you have your HTC EVO 4G or Droid Incredible up and running.

You can also check out shows you would want to watch on Sprint TV or V CAST, or favorite apps from Verizon or Wireless and News.
