Samsung has just announced that the Android-powered Galaxy S II has sold 10 million handsets worldwide, blowing past their previous record. Samsung stated in a press release that over the past 8 weeks they have doubled their sales from 5 million to 10 million. To put this into perspective, the original Galaxy S reached the 10 million mark in 7 months, the Galaxy S II has surpassed this milestone in just short 5 months. There’s no specific numbers for Canada, but other country sales are the following: South Korea has sold 3.6 million, 3.4 million in Europe and over 10 countries (probably including Canada) made up over 3 million.

JK Shin of Samsung said “Since its launch in late April 2011, the GALAXY S II has seen continued sales success, demonstrating Samsung’s industry-leading capabilities in – and commitment to – the smartphone market… In just five months the GALAXY S II has seen tremendous growth, reflecting its tremendous popularity with customers around the world, who in selecting the GALAXY S II as their device of choice have driven the device’s strong market position globally.”

In Canada, Bell, Virgin and SaskTel all sell the Galaxy S II. Rogers will be hopping on board soon with the LTE-enabled Galaxy S II, meanwhile TELUS is launching the powerful Galaxy S II X (Hercules) soon.

Samsung sold 1 million of the Galaxy S II in 30 days, then gained momentum as a confirmed statement by Samsung on July 3rd said they reached a record setting 3 million devices sold in just 55 days. Now,  according to rumours around the web is an unconfirmed report from Samsung stating that an astonishing 6 million Galaxy S II units have been sold worldwide in less than 3 months. Remarkable numbers for this thin 4.3-inch device.

Samsung Mobile is selling a lot of phones and tablets.  Samsung sold 71.4 million handsets during the third quarter, an increase of 19 percent year-on-year.  Average sales price also increased 14 percent quarter-on-quarter to 2.

The rollout of Samsung’s flagship smartphones, Galaxy S and Wave, were the primary drivers of continued sales growth.

Since its introduction in June, Galaxy S has been launched in 90 countries and has been selected by 210 carriers worldwide.  Samsung projects sales of 10 million units by the end of 2010.

The Samsung Wave, which operates on Samsung’s open smartphone platform, bada, has also shipped more than two million units in 80 countries.  Samsung shipped 7 million Galaxy S phones and 2 million from Samsung’s Wave series.

The quarter was also marked by the launch of Samsung’s Android-powered Galaxy Tab, which will be available on 140 carriers globally, including all four major service providers in the United States.

In the fourth quarter, Samsung aims to increase its market share and maintain double-digit operating profit by meeting seasonal demand with an enhanced product mix of mass market smartphones, full-touch phones and the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

2 million Apple iPad sold a week before WWDC 2010

Apple iPad took over the world, reaching 2 million sales in less than 60 days after entering the market on April 3. The tablet of Apple recently began to spread around the world and this helped to increase sales but soon they may grow even more since in July iPad comes in 9 more countries. Steve Jobs said: “Our clients around the world experience the magic of the iPad and obviously enjoying it as much as we. We appreciate their patience and work hard to make enough iPads for all. “Apple launched the era of tablets, but still has not appeared no one to challenge their supremacy in the sector. Currently, however, Google is gaining strength and will undoubtedly prepare for the attack – similar to the situation with Android which recently captured a growing share of the market of smartphones. But no one knows what will trump other removed by Apple against its competitors.
